Supreme Court to pass order on Delhi SIR Form 6 anomaly; hearing advanced to Oct 28

The Supreme Court on October 14 advanced the hearing on Delhi's electoral-roll revision from October 30 to October 28, with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant saying the court is thinking of passing an order that will take care of the Form 6 anomaly. A bench of the CJI and Justice Joymalya Bagchi was hearing an application alleging that voters whose names were deleted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Delhi are being asked to submit Form 6 — a form meant for first-time voters — for re-inclusion. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for petitioners Anjali Bhardwaj and Amrita Johri, submitted that Form 6 requires a declaration that the applicant has never voted before, and a false declaration is punishable with imprisonment; he sought a direction that the Election Commission allow Form 8 or create another form. The draft Delhi roll published on August 31 excluded 47,56,722 electors under the absent, shifted, dead and duplicate categories, and the last date for filing claims and objections is October 30.
