Supreme Court says voter rolls not frozen after SIR; names can be added till nominations are filed

The Supreme Court has clarified that completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls does not freeze the voter list, saying the inclusion of eligible voters is a continuing process and names can be added until nominations are filed for an election. A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana declined to extend the SIR deadline, noting that no extension was needed for that reason. In Kerala, where the revision was completed in February, the court directed the Election Commission to take a sympathetic look at voters who could not submit enumeration forms in time, examine their representations and file a report on the action taken.
