Supreme Court questions Jharkhand's DGP appointment rule

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant on Thursday said Jharkhand's rule making officers with less than six months of service left eligible for DGP was prima facie contrary to the court's 2006 Prakash Singh directions, issued notice to DGP Tadasha Mishra, and gave the state a week to reconsider the rule or answer on record. The bench also asked amicus curiae Raju Ramachandran, with the UPSC's assistance, to examine comparable DGP appointment rules and the appointments made under them in other states, which could take this case beyond Jharkhand.
