Supreme Court advances Delhi SIR hearing to October 28, says it will pass order on Form 6 anomaly

The Supreme Court on October 14 advanced the hearing of pleas challenging Delhi's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to October 28, after it was told that voters deleted from the draft roll are being asked to file Form 6 — a form meant for first-time inclusions that requires a declaration that the applicant has never voted before, with penal consequences for a false declaration. A bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, hearing advocate Prashant Bhushan's mention for RTI activist Anjali Bhardwaj and social activist Amrita Johri, said: "We are thinking of passing an order that will take care of it." The Court advanced the matter from October 30 because the claims-and-objections window closes that day; 47,56,722 voters were excluded from Delhi's August 31 draft roll under the absent/shifted/dead/duplicate categories.
